What you'll learn

I give talks and serve on panels focused on increasing diversity, inclusion, and equity in mathematics. My work is focused on:

  • Strategies which enhance the mathematical preparedness of underrepresented students for college level mathematics and those which support access to meaningful mathematics while in college;
  • Understanding and implementing strategies which foster retention and persistence in mathematics for all students but particularly those from underrepresented communities
  • Developing and understanding meaningful and innovative uses of emerging instructional technologies in support of mathematics instruction.
  • Building community and social infrastructure that supports mathematics achievement in underrepresented communities, in particular, the challenges and opportunities for the development of institutional partnerships aimed at connecting mathematics to the community specifically the creating and sustaining of links between Middle Schools, High Schools, Two and four year College and Research Institutions in a particular geographic region.
  • Strategies to support the participation of members of underrepresented communities in research mathematics.
  • Strategies to The use of number theory in the teaching and learning of mathematics and in mathematics education research. the participation of members of underrepresented communities in research mathematics.

If you are interested in having me participate in your event, then please note that I have implemented a consulting service plan for these endeavors. Consulting services include, but not are limited to: — Talks on diversity, inclusion, and equity, including my own professional journey. — Participation in discussions and panels on diversity, inclusion, equity, anti-racist and anti-sexist practices. — Formal mentoring and counseling of African American and other racially underrepresented junior mathematicians.

Fee:

$500/hour + travel expenses. The fee for talks and panels can be in the form of an honorarium. The number of work-hours in the fee should include preparation time. Pro-bono services are sometimes granted upon request, not by default. This page takes as its template the page of Dr. Chelsea Walton.
